Biographical Information:
Mr. Buchanan has participated in the litigation and trials of numerous personal injury, medical malpractice and product
liability matters. He has worked on both sides of the fence. Early in his career, Mr. Buchanan worked as a defense
attorney for product manufacturers, physicians, hospitals and other health care facilities.
However, for the last 8 years, he has represented only injured individuals.
He primarily handles medical malpractice and serious personal injury matters. But, he has also successfully represented
individuals in employment discrimination and civil rights matters. Mr. Buchanan is strongly committed to fighting for
the rights of the victims of medical malpractice, negligence, willful and wanton conduct and other wrongful acts.
Mr. Buchanan was formerly employed by Jeffrey M. Goldberg
Law Offices. In 2006, however, he left that position and started his own very successful law practice.
During the course of his work for plaintiffs, Mr. Buchanan
has achieved millions of dollars in recoveries on behalf of clients.
Representative recoveries since 2006 include:
$4,200,000 verdict, with co-counsel
Loevy & Loevy, for civil rights violations by Chicago police; defendant's post-trial motion for new trial and for judgment
notwithstanding the verdict was denied.
$1,500,000 settlement for failure to properly
interpret a Pap smear resulting in delay in diagnosis of cancer and loss of chance of survival;
$685,500 settlement for wrongful death from radiology malpractice where a CT
scan was misread, but the patient nonetheless left the hospital against medical advice;
$400,000
settlement for wrongful death of an elderly lady in a Lake County hospital. Liability was strongly contested and the
deceased had only one adult son as a legal heir.
$207,500 settlement for arm fractures in a 6 month
old baby at a day care facility;
Representative recoveries prior to 2006 include:
$1,500,000 for loss of a leg due to medical malpractice;
$2,000,000 for wrongful death due to post surgical malpractice in failing to recognize and treat infection;
$1,000,000 for wrongful death from malpractice in a downstate Illinois county;
$750,000 for surgical malpractice in laparoscopic cholecystectomy;
$850,000 for death of a baby in utero due to obstetric
malpractice.
Mr. Buchanan is a member of the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association and the Illinois State Bar
Association. He has been admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois as
a member of the General Bar and the Trial Bar.
Mr. Buchanan is fluent in Spanish and has worked with many clients
who speak no English. He has been admitted as an attorney in Illinois and Texas.
